Working at Bruntwood: Learning and Development Opportunities

We’re excited to announce that applications open on 2nd February for our 2022 Graduate Scheme, and we’ll be talking about this a lot more over the coming days and weeks. But what’s it like to work at Bruntwood? Below, we run through just some of the fantastic opportunities for learning and development you can benefit from as a Bruntwood colleague…

As a business with a strong sense of purpose, we channel our colleagues’ development through a Learn and Grow framework made up of 3 main activities:

    • Quality conversations

    • Setting meaningful objectives

    • Creating purposeful development plans

All of these activities are supported by a culture of continuous feedback, with quarterly check-ins with your manager in January, April, July and October. This approach allows us as an employer to create a working environment where colleagues feel listened to, encouraged and supported in planning and achieving their goals. Ultimately, this in turn enables us to ensure we stay committed from an employer perspective to realising our purpose of creating thriving cities.

The ‘Grow’ section of our online People platform Kallidus supports objective-setting, with tools for guiding fruitful and focused conversations, and for ensuring goals are achievable. We also provide handy hints for linking targets to our SOAP (Strategy on a Page), which allows for more effective career progression and nurtures stronger job satisfaction.

Meanwhile, the ‘Learn’ section of the platform contains masses of digestible online training content catering to a diverse range of learning styles, and allowing colleagues to enhance their skill sets really easily. The ‘always on’ opinion polls via BHive, our colleague intranet, invite employees to offer their feedback on preferred content so we can constantly improve what’s on offer.

There are also monthly spotlight videos on popular learning topics, to inspire colleagues to seek out new paths they may not previously have thought of and give them pointers on how to get started.

For longer-term or more specialised courses which aren’t offered through our online platforms, we offer interest-free learning loans to colleagues to support their continued development, even if the course is not directly linked to their current role.

On top of all these amazing opportunities, we also aim to make our colleagues’ time at Bruntwood enjoyable and rewarding in lots of other ways. That’s why we offer benefits such as private healthcare and an employee assistance programme; a cycle-to-work scheme and travel-to-work loans; and flexible working along with an additional, free day of leave for your birthday.

In 2020, we officially became a Real Living Wage employer, as we think it’s important to award fair pay for a hard day’s work. But, more than this, we also want to create a diverse environment where colleagues can speak up and be their authentic selves, which is why we are constantly working on the ways in which we enable that. We want to continue to attract talent from all walks of life, and we hope that some of the things we’ve talked about above encourage you to get in touch and see how you can shape the next chapter of your career at Bruntwood.
