Centre City was designed by Richard Seifert, a prolific and much-admired architect who excelled in the modernist movement and whose works have shaped the skyline of post-war Britain. His most famous building is London’s Centrepoint. Built in 1975, Centre City is part of the brutalist school of architecture which is characterised by its modular appearance and rough, exposed concrete. The building comprises a tower and podium - as a condition of the planning permission part of the podium originally housed a theatre but because of several other existing theatres in the area it was never used.
