We recently completed the refurbishment of Queen Insurance Building in Liverpool, investing £550,000 to transform its reception, communal areas and workspace to create an enhanced experience for customers from the moment they arrive.

The Grade II listed neoclassical building is located on Queen Avenue, Liverpool’s last surviving Victorian pedestrian arcade. By combining its original architectural features with upgraded, high-quality offices and contemporary interior design, Bruntwood Places has created a distinctive workspace that meets the needs of modern business, in the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district.

As part of the improvements, three office suites totalling c.6,620 sq ft have been refurbished to provide high-quality, move-in-ready workspace. On the first floor, two suites have been refurbished with a new kitchen, flooring and upgraded lighting. New collaboration spaces also provide additional areas for teams to work and meet away from their main workspace.

Professional refurbishment and renovation company, Renovatus, has since taken a 2,361 sq ft office suite on the first floor, to better support its team and clients. Renovatus modernises and renovates care homes across the UK, creating safer, more comfortable and future-ready environments for residents and care providers.

The second floor suite has also been upgraded with a new kitchen, flooring, lighting and a dedicated collaboration booth. A new meeting room featuring a Crittall-style glazed partition maximises natural light while retaining the suite’s open-plan feel.

Alongside the upgraded suites, we have transformed the communal space at Queen Insurance Building. Original features including exposed brickwork and structural steel have been incorporated into the new design to celebrate the building’s heritage while creating an enhanced space for customers and visitors.

The reception has been fully refurbished with new furniture and breakout seating, alongside a dedicated customer work booth, upgraded WC facilities, improved wayfinding and a new lighting scheme throughout the reception, staircases and lift lobbies. We also worked with customer dot-art, based at Queen Avenue, to find a local artist for the project. The business commissioned two abstract pieces from mural artist Jazz Stan for the upgraded reception.

Sam Birtwistle, Associate Director at Bruntwood, said: “Queen Insurance Building has a rich history and a distinctive character that make it an important part of Liverpool’s commercial district. This refurbishment has allowed us to retain and celebrate those features while upgrading the building to meet the needs of businesses today.

“From the arrival experience and communal areas to the three move-in-ready suites, the investment has created a more welcoming and practical environment for customers and their teams. We’re looking forward to welcoming new businesses - such as Renovatus - into the refurbished spaces.”

Ben Davies, Managing Director at Renovatus, added: “We're delighted to be taking space within the Queen Insurance Building. The redevelopment offers a unique blend of heritage, character and modern workspace, making it an excellent fit for Renovatus as we continue to grow. The building's location and quality of accommodation will provide a fantastic environment for our team and enable us to support our clients even more effectively in the years ahead.

“What particularly appealed to us was the opportunity to be part of a building with such a strong history and architectural character, while benefiting from a thoughtfully delivered modern workspace. It's encouraging to see an important historic building being given a new lease of life, and we're excited to play a small part in its next chapter.”

This investment forms part of our ongoing commitment to creating and enhancing high-quality, future-ready workspaces across our portfolio, designed to help businesses grow and respond to the changing needs of their people.
