Grand Union supports innovative artistic and curatorial practice. Like us, they believe that a strong artistic community is an essential part of an integrated city.
Grand Union provide support by working with artists, curators and writers across Birmingham, with an emphasis on commissioning new art and supporting career development. Through an ambitious programme of exhibitions, talks and events they engage the public, whilst providing affordable, purpose-built studio space for contemporary visual artists.
Our partnership with Grand Union aims to further support and advocate artistic practice in Birmingham and wider social contexts, by providing access to spaces for innovative artistic and curatorial practice. We have worked with them to offer a specially designed coworking space at Cornwall Buildings for two resident artists throughout 2019. The shared workspace is free to use and over the course of the one year residency the artists will mentored by Grand Union’s curatorial team.
We have a long term commitment to creating thriving cities, and recognise that both arts and culture are key components to a city’s quality of life, as well as being powerful economic drivers. As Birmingham approaches an unprecedented surge in growth, it is vital that the city’s arts and culture scene continues to be supported, as well as developing the city’s home grown talent.
The 2019 artists-in-residence are Joyce Treasure and Suzi Osborn.
