Diversity & Inclusion

Our purpose, values and people-focused culture create an environment where people act with respect, curiosity, empathy and fairness.

All of our colleagues are encouraged to ‘shape your world’, enabled by the business to take control of their careers and lives; to both stretch their ambitions and achieve them, regardless of their background.

A core value of Bruntwood’s is that “We Are Brilliant to Work With” and our culture is at the heart of this. We are honest about the challenges we face and make genuine commitments about how we will tackle them. We know that inequality has a negative impact on everyone and by tackling inequality we help to live our purpose of “Creating Thriving Cities”; improving productivity and driving inclusive growth in a way that is truly sustainable.

This purpose is driven by working with our communities on the development of those communities and therefore, it is vital that Bruntwood is a diverse and inclusive place to work, truly reflective of the communities that we live and work in. We believe that in doing so, we will become an even better place to work, we will have better conversations and relationships with our customers and that our business will thrive over the long term.

“Talent is evenly distributed but opportunity is not. We aim to reflect the communities we work in and to create opportunity for all who work for and with us. Doing so brings huge benefits to us all: a wealth of opinion; innovative and creative ideas; an interesting working environment; exciting new talent; and a better understanding of our customers and communities. All of this helps us to see the world differently, to effectively respond to the challenges of tomorrow today and to make sure that the solutions are shaped for the benefit of everyone." - Chris Oglesby

    What are we doing?

Our values and our culture are at the heart of how we do business. We recognise that we need to go even further to become more reflective of the communities that we work in and alongside. As part of this commitment, we helped shape and became founding members of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter, are proud to be Disability Confident Employer, and members of the All Equals Charter.

D&I is one of our key strategic projects with a dedicated programme manager and we are developing targets and exploring changes to our processes and practices to enable the changes. Crucially, for this to be sustainable, we will ensure that we continue to build an inclusive culture that enables all of our diverse colleagues to thrive. You can view our latest report here.

    Gender Pay Gap

Since 2017, UK companies with 250 people or more must publish their gender pay data, covering both salaries as well as bonus payments. Alongside that, we also need to report on the percentage of men and women in each pay quartile. We published our first report in April 2018 covering a snapshot of data taken on 4th April 2017. You can read our most recent report here, and previous reports here, here and here.

As part of our D&I strategy we are committed to reducing our gender pay gap and gender bonus gap, and are proud to have 56% female representation (May 2020) on our Group shareholder and Operating boards. We believe in equal pay for equal work and will be launching a defined and fairly applied reward and recognition framework for all colleagues across all teams in 2021.

We have an active D&I allyship group, with representatives from across Bruntwood, who are empowered to raise awareness of what is important to our colleagues. They help shape our D&I strategy and support us to build a culture where everyone feels that they belong.

    Colleague Networks

Alongside our D&I allyship group, we have a number of colleague networks. These are initiated by our colleagues, with support from Bruntwood, and provide a space for those with shared interests, lived experience or identities to come together. Colleagues joining Bruntwood are encouraged to join or set up a network and we currently have 4 colleague communities.

    • Bruntwood Race Network
    • Bruntwood Carers Community
    • Bruntwood Menopause Community
    • Bruntwood LGBTQIA+ Allies
    • Bruntwood Parents Network
    • Bruntwood Neurodiversity Community
