1. Working at Bruntwood

Placement & Graduate opportunities

We’re committed to developing talent across all our city regions, and this includes offering Placement opportunities. The value of placements is twofold; a chance for you to learn from us and for us to learn from you.

Placements at Bruntwood will allow you to really add value. You’ll be empowered to get stuck in and involved in projects.

“I started at Bruntwood on a Placement with the expectations of making coffees, hoovering the office and shadowing senior staff - was I wrong! As a Placement, you're treated as every other member of the team, exposed to a vast majority of responsibilities. I couldn't recommend working in such a fast paced, supportive environment enough.."

Joe Dos Santos - Building Surveyor, Building Consultancy

Bruntwood has always had a culture of ‘growing its own’. Many of our senior team started with Bruntwood as graduates and have developed and grown to become today’s leaders.

As we are passionate about creating a culture of learning, we encourage and support our graduates and placements to develop their skills when they join us, and many continue their career with us at Bruntwood and go on to gain chartership in their field.

"Undertaking a placement at Bruntwood gave me the opportunity to put theory into practice and proved to be incredibly beneficial for my final year of University, everything just made sense!

I returned to Bruntwood as a Graduate and have been here for 10 years, working across a number of regions and now I am responsible for an entire portfolio, leading a team of Building Surveyors, all of whom also started their careers with Bruntwood as placements."

Ethan Canning - Regional Lead, Building Consultancy

We want our placement students to be able to shape their career during the time with us, and so we will offer you:

  • Access to a Mentor and Buddy, who will support you through your time with us.

  • The opportunity to practically apply what you’ve been taught at university into the real world.

  • Responsibility for maintaining quality, helping to keep a track of budgets and timescales.

  • Access to a broad range of general building surveying activities and the opportunity to gain real autonomy for completing work and building relationships within Bruntwood.

What our current placements have to say:

  • Adam Downs - Placement Quantity Surveyor

"I have really enjoyed my first 3 months at Bruntwood Scitech, receiving lots of exposure across many different types of projects, predominantly helping to renovate our Alderley Park Science Complex, Manchester Science Park and Circle Square. I have covered most major parts of a QS's role, including completing pre-tender cost plans, valuations, and managing contracts. Bruntwood is a great environment to learn and develop, with all of the team making me feel welcome from the first day!"

  • Chris Kerwin - Placement Building Surveyor

"Bruntwood has enabled me to immerse myself within the building surveying profession and develop the base of knowledge that I gained at university and put it into real-life situations. They provide consistent training and weekly opportunities to talk through any issues or acknowledge achievements which really helps to build confidence within the role."
